The Vision Quest
Amazing
things can happen when you spend eight days and
nights in the wilderness, surrounded by the starkly
majestic mountains. The vast expanse of nature
is full of so many surprising signs of life when
you take the time to look. The winds, at times
gentle and playful, can at times blow unrelentingly,
seemingly blowing from all directions at once.
In time you begin to hear the songs and messages
in the howling wind.
There are challenges- boredom, confusion, fear
and loneliness, all can come during solotime.
Fasting can bring you right to your emotional
and feeling edge, and yet has the capacity to
make you utterly transparent and open to spirit.
This is a time of entering and honouring the
sacred dimension, for paying attention to the
smallest things- the breath, the sound of the
heartbeat, a simple song, the still quiet voice
inside that seldom gets heard or heeded.
On the last night of the solo time at dusk,
you enter the wheel of stones that is your life,
and you stay there until dawn, ready and willing
to listen to the voice of the spirit. Your journey
has brought you to this moment, this solitary
night, bringing you to a new sense of being completely
alive as you stand in awe of the Great Mystery,
feeling yourself integrating and becoming whole
and with full appreciation, finding your human
place in the Great Circle.

Perhaps the most important gift is the discovery
that you are part of a very alive and responsive
universe, so full of life: animals, insects plants
willing to openly communicate with and befriend
you. Slowly you begin to wonder how you could
have been lonely in such a universe. You learn
to trust in ways that a child trusts, yet informed
by a well-earned wisdom. You regain the trust in
your body- wisdom that was your original birthright.
These days and nights have the capacity to transform
even the most hardened urbanite into someone who
is comfortable and at ease with nature and perhaps,
even more importantly, with themselves. Once you
have experienced this at-homeness in the natural
world, it is possible to return to the world of
technology and jobs, family and commitments',
ready to engage in the challenge of the modern
world. This is where the vision that has been
earned in the wilderness must be walked and lived
if we are to play our part in the healing and
wholeing of the world.
On these quests, Rob is assisted by a staff of
competent and experienced helpers and apprentices.
Delicious vegetarian food is served. Every effort
is made to create an environment in which each
quester can have a deep and meaningful experience.
Rob Young organised, assisted and was apprentice
and friend to Sedonia Cahill, author and vision
quest guide for the Great Round USA who led many
quests in the US, Ukraine, and Australia. Upon her death he has continued her work. Having been involved in questing for over 15 years, Rob and staff create a safe nurturing possibility for each quester with the emphasis on an individual's needs. A unique questing experience is presented to each person with passion and carefullness and Desert Vision Quest is acknowledged for this.
Clarification of intentions, medicine teachings,
three days of solo time, dancing, singing, sharing
of ceremony and the evolution of personal life
myths: finding one's place in the Sacred Hoop.
This is a self healing, earth healing process
on the deepest level.
